Glossary of Terms: Moodle

There are a few terms with which you should be familiar to make your use of Moodle easier.

Assignment – A Moodle activity that allows you to submit an assignment electronically which can then be retrieved by your instructor. Your instructor can send you comments and also grade the assignment online.

Class Notes – Usually the first resource listed under a topic, clicking on this link will open a new window that contains the content for the given topic.

Forum – A Moodle activity that allows you to interact with the instructor and your classmates through an electronic bulletinboard, where you can read the comments of others and add your own.

Journal – A Moodle activity that is like an electronic diary, except the instructor can read it too. The journal is often used for personal reflection about the content of a course.

Label – A category identifier found at the bottom of topic text. It makes it easier for you to find things like assignments, readings, forums, journals, etc.

Topic – Moodle classes are set up to contain a set number of topics or weeks. We typically use topics, and the topic number can be seen next to the topic heading.
