CES Licensure now offers more courses with a significant online coursework component. With fewer face-to-face class sessions, these ‘hybrid online’ courses are designed help you more easily fit your studies into your busy lives. Whether conducted online or in a classroom, all CES Licensure courses utilize the Moodle online course management system. To find out more about Moodle click here.
What is a hybrid online course?
Our hybrid online courses combine the e-learning format of a standard online course with three face-to-face sessions. This method of teaching offers both the convenience of online distance learning and the benefits of traditional student and instructor interaction. The first session of the course begins with a face-to-face class meeting that will allow you to meet the instructor and classmates, review the syllabus, and learn about the technology. Your instructor will introduce you to our online course management system, called Moodle, and demonstrate how you can access:
- Posted course content
- Links to resources
- Communication tools, such as email and asynchronous discussion forum
The middle and last class sessions will also be traditional face-to-face, adding to the on-line discussions and community building that are so important in all learning.
Successful Online Learning
Listed below are the keys to having a successful online learning experience at CES.
- You will need to be self-motivated. There is no physical class to attend–or to skip–but you need to have the self- discipline to regularly log in to your class and do the required assignments in a timely manner. Good time management skills are a necessity.
- You should feel comfortable communicating with your peers and instructors via email and online forums and journals.
- Almost all communications are through written documents, so it is helpful if you are good at expressing yourself in writing. This would be a good time to polish up those typing skills! There are a number of free on-line and downloadable typing programs. Give one a try!
- You will need to have basic computer skills, such as the ability to save and then find a file on your computer, interact with on-line resources and upload and download documents to and from the Internet. We can help you polish up your computer skills if need be.
